A camera without a lens? It seems strange, but it exists, and it seems that it is capable of capturing photographs with a lot of help from Artificial Intelligence (AI). This project is called Paragraphica, and its main objective is to allow capturing parts of our world, without the limitation of visual perception.
There is a photo camera with a lot of AI, but no lens!
So how does this all work? Well, according to the team responsible for the project, instead of using a lens, this camera uses current location data, and later, with the help of AI, it is possible to generate a photo. To have a photo in your style, this camera has several buttons, and extra options, so that the user is able to control and influence what will come out of each capture. Interestingly, although there are no lenses, there is a screen that will give you a kind of preview of what the camera is doing.
More specifically, you can go to a location, choose the day, choose the temperature, whether it’s raining or not, whether it’s sunny or not, and from there manage to take a completely different photo of what’s in front of you, despite the fact that the location is exactly the same.

Traditional cameras are meant to capture the moment, while this new type of product, based on AI, is timeless. It’s hard to explain when we’re talking about a completely new product that we’ve never seen in the real world. But the idea is undeniably very interesting.
Interestingly, this project may not even lead to a commercial product, being just something “experimental”.
