In the UK, for example, Nintendo dominated the action last month. Because “Tears of the Kingdom” hit like a bomb, the Switch again outsold the PlayStation 5.
After the weekly top 10, the monthly charts have now arrived from Great Britain. Here not only the physical, but also the digital sales were considered.
However, the number of physical units sold was sufficient for the leader to secure first place. Nintendo did not release any digital data for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nevertheless, no title could hold a candle to the open-world adventure.
Never before has a “Zelda” offshoot celebrated such a successful start on the island as this time. As far as sales figures are concerned, only “Twilight Princess” and its direct predecessor “Breath of the Wild” are ahead of the new part.
Because of the huge success of “Tears of the Kingdom”, the balance of power on the consoles has shifted again. The Nintendo Switch is now back at the top, where previously the PS5 was enthroned four months in a row.
Around 96,000 Nintendo consoles found buyers in May. 35 percent of them are the Zelda Edition. Compared to the previous month, the numbers have actually fallen by five percent, but May 2022 was 28 percent worse.
PS5 sales down
The PS5 sold 23 percent less than in April. For the first time this year, sales were lower than in the same month last year. Incidentally, Microsoft is no different: both in April and last May, the numbers looked better.
After all, Sony is ahead when it comes to accessories. Because the DualSense controller was the best-selling gaming accessory. Behind it is Nintendo’s Pro Controller, which got a boost from the “Zelda” release.
A little more about the games: The old-gen versions of “Hogwarts Legacy” took second place. 53 percent of sales are accounted for by the PS4 faction and 24 percent by Xbox owners. Current-gen players are responsible for the rest. Another new release was the arcade racer “Lego 2K Drive”, which only made it to 19th place.
