With each release of highly anticipated role-playing games featuring a character editor, the creativity of players is expressed. Diablo 4 is no exception to the rules with heroes from pop culture.
Diablo 4: a staging never seen for the license
Diablo 4 has finally been in everyone’s hands since June 6. All players were able to discover the open world of the game, its new paragon board and its staging more than ever worked for the license. If this narration marks more than the previous opuses, it is for a very simple reason: the immersion offered by Blizzard. When starting a new game, players go through a character editor that they can shape to their liking. It is this character who will be found in the cutscenes of the game (see image opposite).
For the editorial staff of JV, such a choice on the part of Blizzard is bold: the player character has a say, in his place, without being at the heart of the story. It is around him that the protagonists evolve but not necessarily thanks to him. To illustrate the contrary, we know that Link has been mute since his first adventures: a choice justified by Nintendo to allow the player to immerse himself in place of the hero.
When the Internet has fun with the character creator
However, immersion is only possible if you have the will to do so. And when players are given the opportunity to shape their character with a somewhat complete editor, it happens more often that they let their creative fiber do the talking to imitate personalities more than to shape a hero that is close to their heart. Witness the few creations observed on Reddit: Kratos from God of War, Musclor or Walter White from Breaking Bad. Judge instead:

Unfortunately, we only have their cosmetic aspect: a pity that these visuals are not accompanied by a demonstration of their skills, as Diablo 4 can allow the role-playing game to be pushed even further. If it is obvious that Kratos and Musclor are moving towards the side of the Barbarian, we would perhaps have seen Walter White more as a Witch Doctor. The class is however not currently in Diablo 4. Perhaps in the next expansions to come?
