Despite the recurring debates around synthetic fuels, it seems increasingly clear that car manufacturers are destined to fully immerse themselves in the world of electrics. Porsche is a striking example of this with its Taycan range. This iconic brand has already started its conversion to 100% electric, and seems determined to stay the course.
Porsche, the legendary sports car brand, has revealed its latest concept – an all-electric two-seater hypercar. Baptized “Mission X”, this audacious creation promises to be a revolution for the brand and its aficionados. While the motors will remain silent, reactions from long-time fans are likely to be louder.

75 to the Porsche
The announcement was made the day before the opening of the “75 Years of Porsche Sports Cars” exhibition at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. It was here, on June 8, 1948, that the 356 “No. 1” Roadster became the first vehicle to bear the Porsche name, marking the birth of the sports car brand.
The Porsche Mission X is a technological beacon for the sports car of the future. It thus joins the sports car icons of previous decades: like the 959, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder, the Mission X provides a decisive impetus for the development of future vehicle concepts, says Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche AG
Measuring 4.5 meters long and 2 meters wide, the Mission X is a relatively compact hypercar. Its wheelbase of 2.73 meters corresponds to the dimensions of the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder. Fitted with mixed tyres, it sports 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, aiding driving dynamics.

Particular care has been taken with the wheels of this concept study. Near-transparent airfoils are positioned on the rear axle, designed like turbines for better cooling of the wheel brakes. Its sculptural shape and muscular surfaces echo both Porsche and Ferrari, combining the audacity of these two legendary brands.

But what do we know about the performance of this hypercar?
The Mission X is expected to be the fastest homologated vehicle on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Its power-to-weight ratio is close to one kilogram per horse, which is huge. In other words, the Mission X should offer a power of 735 kilowatts (kW) or 1,000 hp for a weight of 1,000 kg. Like the Mission R, it is expected to use permanent magnet synchronous motors (PSM).

As far as recharging is concerned, the Mission X far exceeds current standards. Thanks to its 900 volt system architectureit charges about twice as fast as Porsche’s current model, the Taycan Turbo S, which has a charging capacity of 270 kW.

The Mission X’s battery should be able to go from 10 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes, with a maximum charge capacity of 340 kW for an 82 kWh battery installed centrally behind the seats. This so-called E-Core arrangement centers the mass in the vehicle and allows, just like a conventionally powered mid-engined vehicle, “excellent agility”.
In short, the Porsche Mission X is much more than an electric car: it represents a bold vision of the future of sports cars. First-time fans may well be perplexed by this drastic shift. But one thing is certain: Porsche wants to enter the electric era.
