As announced in the Devolver Direct pre-show, the developers at Grasshopper Manufacture are working on a remaster of the dark action title Shadow of the Damned. More details about the new edition will follow next week.
As part of the pre-show for this year’s Devolver Direct, there was an announcement that very few would have expected in this form.
As announced, the developers of Grasshopper Manufacture are working on a remaster of the 2011 released action title Shadows of the Damned. Specific details about the new edition have not yet been given, but these should follow in this year’s Grasshopper Direct, which takes place on Thursday, June 15 at 6 a.m. our time.
Until then, we’ll have to make do with a short teaser trailer for Shadows of the Damned Remastered, which was released to coincide with the official announcement of the remaster.
The rights to the brand are back with Grasshopper
“Shadows of the Damned” was released in cooperation with Electronic Arts and was released for the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. While Goichi Suda aka Suda51 was responsible for the quirky story, “Resident Evil” creator Shinji Mikami acted as the Producer of the action title.
After Grasshopper Manufacture announced in 2021 that it had secured the rights to the brand, the remaster was announced. “Shadows of the Damned” tells the story of the protagonist Garcia Hotspur, who goes into the vastness of the underworld with his sidekick Johnson to save his girlfriend Paula and put the demon lord Fleming in her place.
At the time, the story, the offbeat humor and the coherent game world of “Shadows of the Damned” were particularly praised. On the other hand, the sometimes bumpy gameplay, which was particularly noticeable in the boss fights, caused criticism. Electronic Arts never gave concrete sales figures, but pointed out that the action title sold below internal expectations. Consequently, a successor was refrained from at the time.
