06/09/2023 at 10:30 a.m. by Karsten Scholz – Out of nowhere, those responsible for Nimble Giant Entertainment and Paradox Interactive announced a 4X strategy game called “Star Trek: Infinite” at the Summer Game Fest. Concrete details should only be available in a few days, but our Karsten is still happy about the unveiling.
From time to time we play on buffed “Wünsch dir was”. On my Wishlist for the gaming year 2018 and on mine Wishlist for the gaming year 2021 there are two duplications. Number 1: the announcement of a AAA MMORPG with a fat license behind it. fingers crossed that that “Lord of the Rings” MMO from Amazon Games will be good! Number 2: Finally a fun Star Trek game again.
It’s just sad that this wonderful franchise has been so neglected over the past decade. Or to put it another way: if the best Star Trek game in recent years is a private mod for Stellaris (ST NewHorizons), then something is going wrong. After all, there was in May Star Trek: Resurgence a Telltale-style adventure that arguably captures the mood of Star Trek: The Next Century capture and shouldn’t be a complete catastrophe in terms of gameplay (that would be progress; now I just have to find the time to play it myself).

Paradox announces 4X game for Star Trek
Speaking of Stellaris and ST NewHorizons. I’ve always wondered why those responsible for Paradox, the kings of complex 4X global strategy, never grabbed the Star Trek license to take the qualities of Stellaris, Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Victoria and Co. into the infinite expanses to be transferred to the Federation. That would fit like a razor fist in a Ferengi’s eye!
Whether my theory is correct, we will find out in the foreseeable future! At the Summer Game Fest 2023, the people in charge of Nimble Giant Entertainment and Paradox Interactive surprisingly fulfilled my wish and announced a 4X strategy game called “Star Trek: Infinite” with a teaser trailer.

Unfortunately, the official unveiling of the game will not take place until Picard Day on June 16, 2023. Thanks to the trailer, it is already clear: In addition to the Federation, the Borg, Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians are also on board.
