Well-known video bloggers, in particular Louis Rossmann and JayzTwoCents, drew attention to problems with Gigabyte video cards. There have been a lot of complaints on the Web from unfortunate owners who were denied warranty service by the company due to physical damage. As a result, they have to turn to independent service centers, which also note the influx of video cards with the same type of defect.
All examples point to a design flaw causing a crack in the same area next to the PCI Express x16 interface. This leads to a break in the conductors in the inner layers of the printed circuit board, due to which the video card no longer turns on. Gigabyte’s warranty doesn’t cover physical damage, so users are left with faulty graphics cards.
The good news is that the problem can be fixed as it does not affect the GPU, VRAM, or VRM components. PCB track repairs are commonplace for electronics repair services, but that doesn’t change the fact that the problem described above is quite common and affects one particular brand.
It is interesting how quickly Gigabyte will respond to this problem, given that vloggers with millions of subscribers have now attracted attention to it.
