The point-and-click adventure game series Deponia is changing things up with the fifth installment in the series, which was announced at the Future Game Show Summer Showcase. Surviving Deponia this time around is a story-driven survival game set after the events of the fourth game in the series, Deponia Doomsday. In this, the floating utopia Elysium crashed into the garbage planet Deponia, causing not only water shortages, but a change in social order.
Your job is to unravel the mystery of the lack of water while gathering resources to build your own home and protect yourself from the monsters and bad guys lurking outside. Surviving Deponia is coming to PS5, Xbox X|S, and PC with Early Access set to arrive on PC this year.
The presentation of Surviving Deponia was marked by a dynamic trailer showing a miniature rocket flying through space before crashing into a barren planet. Our adventurer then crawls out from under the rubble to greet an older guy before we look up to the sky, seeing a host of other challenges along the way.
The planet we crashed on is Deponia, a debris-filled world inhabited by large numbers of people before they found the utopia in the sky known as Elysium.
The trailer acts as a bridge leading us from the Deponia Doomsday ending to Surviving Deponia. While we’ve seen several games in the series, developer Atomic Torch Studio says you don’t need to know about them to enjoy this game. For fans of the series, you’ll get a canonical ending about the fate of Elysium and the people of Deponia.
