Donetsk football club “Miner» was in the third pot of the 2023/24 Champions League group stage draw.
The seeding of the Ukrainian team was determined after the end of the final match of the 2022/23 Champions League between Manchester City and Inter. The trophy of the main European Cup club tournament was won by the citizens, having beaten the Italians with a score of 1:0.
The composition of the participants in the group stage of the Champions League 2023/24:
1 basket: Manchester City, Sevilla, Barcelona, Napoli, Bavaria, PSG, Benfica, Feyenoord;
2 basket: Real, Manchester United, Inter, Borussia D, Atlético, Leipzig, Porto, Arsenal;
3 basket: Shakhtar, Salzburg, Milan, Lazio, Red Star;
3 or 4 basket: Real Sociedad, Celtic, Newcastle, 4 champion path qualifiers, 2 league path qualifiers;
4 basket: Union, Lance.
Interestingly, if Inter had won the 2022/23 Champions League, Shakhtar would have ended up in the second pot.
