During the Ubisoft Forward, there were a whole bunch of new images, especially for mobile gamers. Besides Assassin’s Creed Jade, the AAA mobile game The Division Resurgence also passed a head in the conference. And we even got to play it. We tell you everything!
What is The Division Resurgence?
Announced a year ago now, Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence is a mobile game set in the universe of Tom Clancy’s The Division. According to Ubi, the title is supposed to establish itself as one of the most ambitious mobile games. Both AAA mobile and free game, this new, built-from-the-box experience promises The Division-like gameplay, a large open world, and a social-focused experience.
Who in the story? We keep the same post-apocalyptic setting. Just before Christmas on Black Friday, a vile scientist released a virus called Green Poison in Manhattan in particular. Result ? A devastating epidemic began and the region was quarantined to contain it. Yes but now, if things have improved since then, the area fell into chaos when different groups sought to take power. To regain control of the situation, the government chose to send in the Strategic Homeland Division, also known simply as the Division. If you know anything about the license, you already know that. On the other hand, note that despite a familiar context, Resurgence offers an unpublished story (with all that that implies in terms of novelties) taking place between the events of Tom Clancy’s The Division and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. However, it is not necessary to have played one or the other to understand what is happening in Resurgence.
And gameplay level what does it give? The Division obliges, we find an experience mixing TPS shooter, RPG mechanics and multiplayer. Everything is carried by a story and main quests (with cutscenes and tutti quanti). The developers also promise us “a moving journey”. And speaking of promises, know that Ubisoft hopes to make Resurgence “a visual reference for the market”. Another important point: the title should offer substantial post-launch content. We are indeed sold years of follow-up punctuated by the introduction of new seasons every four months which will offer new specializations, skins and game modes. You can also add to this limited-time events like manhunts. Suffice to say that the program promises to be loaded, but you still have to stick to it.
Beta and release date
And it will soon be possible to check for yourself if the game keeps its promises. While a test phase ended recently, another will begin soon. DFrom June 13 to September 9, a regional beta phase will be launched in different countries, such as Finland, Spain, Chile and Australia. If the feedback is good, the game should be released soon after, i.e. in the fall of 2023.
Note that thanks to the last test session, several things have been added, namely new content, new activities, new specializations or even a melee attack. And you know what ? In recent days we have been able to test these little new features but also the rest of the game. Here are our first impressions.
Report Testing Agent
It is undeniable, for a mobile game, we are dealing with an ambitious and above all generous title. A real storyline, long cutscenes, lots of information, great customization, fluid gameplay (apart from a few hiccups, especially in melee), a good sense of progression, a few well thought-out additions… Resurgence ticks a lot of boxes . That might be a bit of a lot of information to digest, but at least we can’t complain about a lack of content. And this even if we have already played The Division.
Resurgence is not content to be a simple transposition of the universe on mobile. It offers, as we have said, a new framework. This of course involves the introduction of new characters, but also factions and never-before-seen villains. And frankly, it’s fun. This is a truly new entry in this popular license.
In terms of gameplay, mobile shooter players will not be out of place. Resurgence offers an interface similar to a COD Mobile for example, with of course some adjustments. Moreover, we feel that in general, Resurgence is inspired by mechanics that have already proven themselves, even if it means modifying the bases of the license a little. Note for example that the game invites you to choose a specialization for your agent. The latter will give you access to specific weapons and skills corresponding to a particular style of play. From what we have seen, they are rather well thought out, even if some make the game a little too easy. If Ubisoft sold us a tactical aspect necessary to survive, it is clear that we were able to move forward without incident, even by sometimes opting for a fairly frontal approach.
But despite an imperfect experience, we spent pleasant hours on The Division Resurgence. The game is efficient and offers some interesting things. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to judge the quality of a title deprived of a part of its soul: the MMO side. Limited access requires, there were not enough players connected for us to get an idea of this large part of the content of Resurgence. For the moment, it is also difficult to see the impact that monetization will have in the game. In a title of this kind, we are often afraid of sinking into pay-to-win and this point could prove decisive for many players. . To be continued…
