In a French exclusive interview, Sony announced a new feature that will soon arrive for PS Plus Premium PS5 subscribers. Without further ado, we explain everything to you.
For a year now, the redesign of PlayStation Plus has been making beautiful players of PS4-PS5 players. According to the latest news, the subscription offer has more than 47 million members, slowly recovering from a loss of audience observed in September 2022. So yes, the figures are good, and the new Extra and Premium tiers are appealing. In a financial report published in May, Sony reveals that 30% of convinced PS Plus (14 million people) have opted for one of the two formulas – and 17% for the more expensive. “We are very happy with our results,” says Nick Maguire, global head of PlayStation subscriptions. The man also had some nice news.
Streaming in the spotlight on PS5
“We are currently testing cloud streaming for PS5 games,” Maguire said. “This includes games in the Extra and Premium catalog, trial versions – as well as digital PS5 titles that Premium members have in their library”… In other words, streaming will soon be more present for subscribers to PlayStation’s ultimate offer. Today, when a game included in PS Plus bears the mention “PS4 and PS5”, it is the old generation version that launches in remote play (to play the next-gen version, you need the download). In addition, to date, all PS5 games in the Extra and Premium catalog are not necessarily available for streaming, which will eventually be ancient history! For the demos, this will be a real novelty.
As Nick Maguire explains, the new feature – which will only be available on PS5 – is currently in the “test phase” and has no release date yet… In any case, we can imagine a synergy with the Q Lite, a portable PlayStation console 100% dedicated to remote reading (which also has no release date)! The object, presented at Sony’s previous Showcase, demonstrates the company’s ambition in terms of streaming, like Xbox and its xCloud.
