Project Q could be quite expensive fun if recent statements during the Microsoft Activision deal negotiation are true. The streaming handheld could cost up to $299.99.
The ongoing FTC investigation into Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard uncovered some information that appears to have subsequently been released to the public had it not been for a trial. For example, it had to be acknowledged that with “Indiana Jones” the next Bethesda game will be exclusive to Xbox. It appears to be a template for what fans of Activision Blizzard games can expect after a completed takeover.
But the latest Sony hardware has also been themed, including Project Q. It’s a streaming handheld that gives owners the ability to remotely play games from the PS5 to the portable device, allowing them to play in virtually any location with WiFi -connection available.
So far it is unclear what price Sony will charge for Project Q. In the statements during the latest investigation into the planned takeover of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, however, a framework was mentioned that suggests quite expensive hardware.
Project Q for under $300
So Microsoft surprised with the following statement: “Sony is expected to release a handheld version of the PlayStation 5 later this year for less than $300.”
Strictly speaking, Project Q is not a handheld version of the PS5, since comparable and independent technology would have to be installed. However, the reference to an amount of less than $300 could mean that the price point is $299.99, which sounds quite bold for a streaming-only device that also requires a PS5. However, it is unclear where Microsoft or the responsible team of lawyers got this information from.
Sony announced Project Q during the PlayStation Showcase earlier this year. The device supports adaptive streaming up to 1080p and 60 FPS, requiring remote play and a constant internet connection. The handheld has an eight-inch display, haptic feedback and more.
Other significant features were initially not mentioned. However, leaked in the meantime Battery life information through while an insider Information about the release period would like to have raised.
