Team Ricochet has introduced new anti-cheat measures for the titles “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” and “Warzone 2”. Cheaters are said to be plagued by hallucinations soon.
Team Ricochet has released a new progress report for the anti-cheat software of the same name. The software is regularly expanded with new measures designed to track down and clearly identify cheaters and unwanted tools.
The new report introduced one new measure and retired another. With the new anti-cheat measure “hallucinations”, cheaters are presented with illusions that only they can see and which can clearly identify them as cheats. The “quicksand” remedial action, on the other hand, will be discontinued.
Cheaters use a new measure to identify themselves
Team Ricochet periodically deploys new countermeasures against cheaters. The cheaters are usually not blocked immediately, but analyzed instead. The data obtained in this way makes it easier to identify other cheaters who use unauthorized tools, for example. The new “hallucinations” measure should also help with this.
Decoys are placed near the cheaters that only the cheats themselves can see. Regular players don’t see the “hallucinations,” which causes the cheats to reveal themselves whenever they interact with the decoys. The hallucinations look, move and interact with the world like a real gamer. This is not an AI, but an image of a real, active user in the game. “Hallucinations” also provide the same data as a real player, which can also trigger rogue tools.

The “quicksand” measure, on the other hand, was shut down. This slowed down or froze the movement of detected cheaters in-game, making them easy targets themselves. In addition, the cheater’s input settings were occasionally and randomly changed. For example, the controls with the analog stick were inverted or the movement keys were reassigned in a keyboard control. While Quicksand was an effective method against cheaters, it was shelved as it could be visually disruptive to other players in the lobby.
