Huawei unveiled the third version of the Pangu AI model, which uses its own Ascend processor resources and MindSpore software environment, at the Cloud Developers Conference, according to the South China Morning Post. The solution is aimed at corporate clients, including companies specializing in the operation of railway transport or mining.
According to representatives of the specialized division of Huawei Cloud, the computing infrastructure in China now cannot cope with the demand for specialized resources, many local companies are forced to pay big money for specialized NVIDIA accelerators and wait months to receive them. Huawei in this situation is trying to offer an alternative based on processors of its own design. According to company representatives, its cluster based on Ascend processors can be 10% faster than “mainstream GPU” when training models. As emphasized by the management of Huawei Cloud, Pangu’s language model will not be used to write poems, it will focus on serving the needs of the business.
