In recent months, rumors have persisted about a new PlayStation 5 model that will be delivered without an optical drive. An updated product listing on Amazon could indicate that the official announcement is indeed fast approaching.
In the last few weeks and months, several sources have confirmed that Sony is working on two new models of the PlayStation 5. Among them on a kind of more powerful Pro model, which according to insiders should be released at the end of 2024.
Another model that has been confirmed by various leakers and insiders such as Tom Henderson is a new version of the PlayStation 5 that comes standard without an optical drive and according to recent reports only little narrower will fail than the previous PS5 versions.
The rumor mill also reported that the new model, in which the optical drive is offered as an option, will appear in September this year.
The updated product entry for the PlayStation 5 on Amazon’s British website could show that something is in the works in this regard. Here the product name of the PS5 has meanwhile been changed from “PlayStation 5 Console” to “PlayStation 5 Standard Console”.

The £5 price drop on the console as a result plays a minor role given the speculation sparked by the PlayStation 5’s updated listing on Amazon UK. Since we are suddenly talking about the standard model of the PS5, it is assumed that the official announcement or unveiling of the new variant without the optical drive could in fact be imminent.
