Actors were attracted to work on a themed attraction.
Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who played Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us games, returned to their roles, but not for the new part of the series. The actors took part in the creation of a themed attraction.
The creation of an attraction based on The Last of Us became known in June. The project is being developed by the Universal film company, but Naughty Dog, which developed the games in The Last of Us series, is also actively involved in it.
In an interview with SFX Magazine, Universal Orlando’s Laura Sols explains that the attraction is based on the game, and not on the recently released HBO series, where Ellie and Joel were played by other actors.

We brought in voice actors from the game. They re-recorded all the dialogue for our haunted house, we were very happy to work with Troy and Ashley.
The attraction in question is made in the spirit of a haunted house and will appear at Universal Parks in Hollywood and Orlando. Together with Joel and Ellie, the guests of the attraction travel through Pittsburgh, encountering various dangers, such as clickers.
The launch of the first of the rides in the style of The Last of Us is scheduled for September 1st.
