The Adamantine Forge is a hidden location in Baldur’s Gate 3 where you can forge some very powerful equipment. In this guide, we will show you how to do it.
Where can I find the Adamantine Forge in Baldur’s Gate 3?
To get to the Adamantine Forge, you first need to get to Grimforge. This can be done by boarding a doorgar boat west of the Deepholm Shore runestone.
If before that you dealt with the doorgars at the request of the myconids, then the boat will stand without guards. Otherwise, you will have to go through several checks.
After sailing, you will meet with the boat of another mercenary – Corsair Graymon. If you pass one of the checks below, he himself will take you to Grimforge and send you to the sergeant.
Upon arrival, you will also meet a couple of impudent guards extorting money from you. You can not give them anything, in the end they will say that it was a joke.
After landing on the shore, climb the stairs up and unlock the Underdark – Grimforge rune circle. We will consider it the starting point for our routes to the forge.
Shortcut to the Adamantine Forge
The short route will cut your path to the forge by about half, but it only makes sense if you don’t want to craft a longsword, scimitar, or shield.
From the rune circle “Underground – Grimforge” climb the stairs in the south to a round platform, where, according to the plot, you need to clear the blockage to the faithful Nera. On the left side, boards are thrown over the lava, leading to a small stone platform.
From there, you can jump up with the Miststep spell. After that, you need to go upstairs and turn right to unlock the Underdark – Ancient Forge rune circle. Now the rest of the squad will be able to use it to move towards you.
Please note: if you go to the forge, leaving Nere behind the rubble, then upon returning he may already be dead. This blocks the completion of the quests “Free the faithful Nera”, “Rescue the gnomes in Grimforge” and “Find the missing boots”.
At the same time, Nere’s body will lie right in the middle of the site, so you can still collect all the valuable loot from it, the plot lantern, the illithid parasite and, if necessary, get the head.
Long way to the adamantine forge
The long route starts in the northwestern part of Grimforge and is good because along the way you can collect all the molds for the adamantine forge. From the Underdark – Grimforge Rune Circle, travel to the location shown on the map below.
There you will see several drovers who are trying to clear the stone blockage with the help of two deep rotes. You need to use the Speak to Animals spell or the appropriate potion to convince the rote to remove the stones.
We recommend that you tell rote to surrender to rage and avenge the pain. In this case, she will attack the drovers and help you in battle. In other options, the drovers will still attack you, because they do not want to share, but you will have to fight them yourself.

After the blockage is cleared, you can go inside. This is the beginning of your route to the forge. Below we will write a detailed walkthrough, taking into account all the secrets and forms that need to be collected.

Climb the stairs and go forward to the long bridge. Please note that it is full of traps, so it is better to send someone like Astarion ahead, who can easily neutralize them.
If you have patience, neutralize all the traps and reach the end of the bridge, then you will run into a forged gate. You can call the Magic Hand to the balcony from the other side to pull the lever and unlock the gate.
Inside is an idol of Shar, which will make Shadowheart very happy, as well as a chest with a rare piece of armor, Defensive Spark Shield, which grants a +1 bonus to the DC of vs. Spell Tests, and +1 to Armor Class and Challenges while the wearer has Lightning Charges remaining.
Now return to the beginning of the bridge and go down the iron ladder to the platform with levers. From there, you can jump over to the hanging iron structure, and from there, onto the bridge in the center, where you can pick up the mold for the long sword.
To advance further, you need to split your squad into two parts. In the first group, take Astarion and someone with good damage. In the second, leave the other two characters.
Move Squad 1 to the hanging structure, and then use the levers to send them to the other side of the hall. After that, you will find yourself directly opposite the large locked doors leading to the bedroom. You’ll need to pass a Sleight of Hand check (difficulty 12) to hack them.
Examine the Sharite Inquisitor’s skeleton to the right of the stairs, take the harpist’s key from him and read the letter. This will mark a stash chest on your map that you can find later.
Now climb the stairs to the very top and inspect the skeleton that lies there. From it you can pick up the form for the shield.
Go to the locked double doors to the right of the stairs and make a Sleight of Hand check (difficulty 18) to open them. There is a small ambush waiting for you inside, but the two characters should be able to deal with it easily.
From the deluxe chest you can pick up an unusual Firearm crossbow that deals 1-4 damage to burning targets. additional damage, and the soldier has an unusual merregon halberd.
Return from the bedroom to the main hall and go along this side of the site to the end until you hit another platform with levers. From the skeleton near them, you can pick up the form for the scimitar.
Switch to the second part of your squad, which was left somewhere behind. Use the levers again to put the hanging structure back in place, then use it to jump over the bridge in the center of the hall and run all the way across it.
Squad #1 now needs to use the left lever to raise the hanging platform. After squad #2 climbs onto it, you need to use the right lever and send the platform to another part of the hall. At the end, you can lower the platform down again if you get too high for the jump.
Now run ahead and unlock the Underdark Ancient Forge runestone so the rest of the group can join you. So you will find yourself at the same point where the short route ended.

Plate Armor Form
Stand with your back to the Underdark – Ancient Forge runestone and run from it to the left and up the stairs. Climb down the rocks to collect the plate armor mold.
Scale Armor Mold
Go back to the Underdark Ancient Forge Runestone, turn your back to it again, and this time run to the right. After the Animated Armor fight, you will be able to pick up a scale armor mold from the ground. This is the final form for the Adamantine Forge that you must find.
Where can I find mithril ore?
Mithril Ore is the ingredient used to craft Adamantine weapons and armor. So far we have found two.
Mithril Vein #1
From the place where you picked up the last shape for the scaly armor, go down the rocky slope towards the lava river. On the other side you will see a mithral vein, which you need to get to.
This vein is vulnerable to force and bludgeoning damage. Use something suitable to blast it and get mithril ore. Of the spells, for example, the Magic Arrow is suitable. Crushing damage is, for example, in staves.
Mithril Vein #2
To find the second Mithril Vein, return to the Underdark Ancient Forge runestone, turn your back to it, and run forward. On the stairs, look to the left to notice the desired breed in the distance.
Along the way, you will have to fight magmatic mephits that will jump out of the ambush. After that, you can break the vein in the same way as the previous one, and take the mithril ore for yourself.
How to power the adamantine forge?
Now that you have all the shapes and two pieces of ore, you can go down to the forge itself. Having carefully examined the site, you will see the following elements on it: a crucible, a casting chamber and a forge lever.
Use them in the following order:
Insert the mithril ore into the crucible; Insert the selected mold into the casting chamber (the characteristics of all six items for selection are given at the end of the guide); Press the forge lever.
After that, the platform will go down, where another control element will appear – a lava valve. Once you click on it, a boss will appear. So take your time and read the next section first.
Grim: how to defeat the defender of the forge?
Grim is strong, has a lot of health and resistance to most types of damage. In addition, it can only be pierced when the “Melting” status hangs on it.
In practice, this means that his feet should be red after standing in lava. He will also attack the character who hits him last. Therefore, we recommend that you use the following tactics. Divide your squad and place them at the following controls:
On the crucible, put someone with a misty step;You need one character at the lava valve;Another one is at the forge lever;A character with a group attack must stand on the lower platform, because. addons will appear from there.
When everyone takes their places, click on the lava valve and proceed as follows:
On the first turn, the character standing on the crucible must hit Grim last to out-aggro him. When Grim approaches the crucible, the character standing on it must use Mist Step and move to the lower platform to help with the adds. Once Grim is left with there is only one crucible, the character standing at the forge lever must use it to inflict huge damage on Grim. Then the process must be repeated, not forgetting to press the lava valve again when the melting effect subsides from Grim.
As a reward for defeating this character, you will receive Grim’s Skull Helm. This is heavy armor that protects the wearer from critical hits and grants resistance to fire damage.
