The multiplayer shooter’s executive producer spoke about the drop in player numbers. Blizzard also provided two videos centered around the newly introduced heroine.
Last month, Activision had to admit: Both engagement and investment have fallen in Overwatch 2. However, as the Blizzard team has now indicated, that fact doesn’t worry them.
Players come and go
Executive Producer Jared Neuss explained themselves the decline through the free-2-play status. As a result, the hero shooter has become very accessible, but is also easily left again to try other games.
“We’re seeing a normal ebb and flow of players. There is nothing that worries me or the team,” says Neuss.
With the “Invasion” season that started yesterday, the numbers could be moving in the right direction again. Not only new maps, a game mode and the heroine Illari are offered, but also the first story missions. However, the latter will cost you 15 euros.
This gameplay trailer shows what the aforementioned heroine has to offer in terms of gameplay. You can find out more about their backstory in the video below.

Illari is a support equipped with a solar rifle. Not only can she heal, but she can also deal a lot of damage. She can also set up healing pylons to support her teammates. In turn, she uses the Breakout ability to push enemies away to defend herself and the team. If you want to go full offensive, you should use the Trapped Sun ult. This will launch a massive ball of solar energy.
You unlock Illari by reaching level 45 in the Battle Pass. Premium version owners, on the other hand, can play them right away.
