Thor is undeniably one of the most popular superheroes with the general public and yet his films are far from unanimous: imagine that a Thor 5 is starting to make people talk about him, just like a certain Taika Waititi. The latter also has a small idea of what to do, if he is the one who gets the job.
Igor d’Hossegor, don’t look, you have Thor
Played by Chris Hermworth, Thor is an absolutely iconic character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unlike his comrades Captain America, Iron Man or Black Widow, he has not yet hung up the gloves and has also distinguished himself in Phase 4 with Thor Love and Thunder. A long-awaited film, but which somewhat disappointed its audience because of an omnipresent humor, to the point of demystifying the main threats. Overall, the review was pretty lukewarm.
It’s a shame for Taika Waititi, its director who had nevertheless made the feat of raising the bar with Thor Ragnarok (the third feature film dedicated to the Nordic God), which for once is frankly well appreciated for its tasty mix of SF, epic action and humor. An experience all the better received as the first two Thors, designed respectively by Kenneth Branagh and Alan Taylor, do not have a very good reputation within the MCU…
Thor 5 ? Taika Waititi says yes
As you will have understood, the Thor films have a mixed critical reception. Waititi put things right for many with Ragnarok, before the Love and Thunder pitfall this year earned him the wrath of fans. If we still don’t know if a fifth Thor is planned – Chris Hermworth had said himself not knowing anything about it a little while ago – Taika Waititi has in any case spoken on the subject.
So no, he didn’t miraculously admit that Thor 5 was entrusted to him, but he rather confessed that he had ideas for a potential script. Comments reported in the book Marvel’s Thor 4: Love and Thunder Movie Special Book, which will be published next September.
Taika Waititi
What’s left to do with him? It has to be a story that continues the evolution of the character, but always in a very funny way and that allows him to face obstacles that he will have to overcome. I don’t think you can get a weaker villain than Hela. I feel like we need to take it up a notch and introduce an even more badass villain.
We always need more beasts, monsters, aliens, crazies and eccentrics. What’s funny about Thor is that he has a certain casualness, an arrogance, when he visits worlds and meets aliens, I don’t think you can have that with an earthling who travels in the world. space and explore the universe.
Visibly, Waititi doesn’t seem to want to give up the humor specific to his Thor films, something that actually worked pretty well at times. On the other hand, he would like to give more stakes, even more than in Ragnarok with an even more powerful enemy than Hela. Could Zeus and Hercules, played by Russel Crowe and Brett Goldstein, and introduced in the latest Thor, occupy these roles in your opinion?
