PlayStation Portal, Handheld Project Q, Launches This Year!

, Bandung – Project Q that was announced during PlayStation Showcase 2023 now has an official name! Sony announced that the handheld device has the name PlayStation Portal. The tool is intended so that players can enjoy PlayStation 5 games via handheld streaming. However, the handheld device is certainly very different from the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita consoles.

Project Q, or now PlayStation Portal, is described on its official website to bring the PlayStation 5 game experience to your hands. This tool has adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from the DualSense controller on the PlayStation 5, an 8-inch LCD screen with the ability to reach 1080p resolution at 60fps, making playing with high definition visuals enjoyable (if the Wi-Fi connection is sufficient). GameRant says PlayStation Portal has a battery life of 7-9 hours.

PlayStation Portal can play all PS5 games as long as they are installed on the PS5 console and use the DualSense controller. Players can switch between playing on the PlayStation Portal after on the PlayStation 5 with a connection between the two via Wi-Fi. A 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio is also included. Unfortunately, PSVR2 games as well as PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming are not supported.

Because it only relies on streaming, PlayStation Portal cannot run applications locally unlike the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita. Users can only enjoy all the content they have on the PS5 console, including movies and television series, via streaming as long as the WiFi is stable.

PlayStation Portal is priced at 199.99 USD, 219.99 Euros, or 199.99 GBP. Sony said it would open pre-orders for its handheld device in the near future.
