Nathan Drake, Lara Croft’s worthy rival, has managed to win over a large portion of the public, thanks to the qualities that made him a lovable scoundrel: wit, cold blood and limitless curiosity. The explorer often finds himself lying about himself, to the point that not even his last name is the real one.
On numerous occasions throughout the Uncharted series, whose future on PlayStation 5 is currently a bit of a mystery, Nathan Drake claims to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, despite the rumor that the latter had no children. However, in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception it is revealed that in reality this is not the case.
In Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End this aspect is explored further: we discover, in fact, that Drake’s real name is Nathan Morgan. His mother, Cassandra Morgan, was the archaeologist who theorized that Sir Francis Drake actually had heirs.
After the death of his mother, which occurred due to an illness when the explorer was only four years old, his father decided to sell his wife’s archaeological works and abandoned Drake and his brother Sam in an orphanage in Boston. After escaping, the two decided to change name and they borrowed “Drake” for two reasons: to honor their late mother while also telling their story to the world.
And the story of Uncharted may not be over yet. There are some rumors circulating that Uncharted 5 could be coming to Playstation 5, but at the moment the series has been on hold for a few years, precisely since 2017, and Naughty Dog’s plans in this regard are not known.
