The film Crime 101 has recently been in the news. Amazon and Netflix have upped the ante for broadcast rights. The e-commerce giant made a $100 million offer, and now it has won!
Amazon and Netflix recently fought to obtain the rights to the film Crime 101. And it was the e-commerce giant that ultimately won, with an auction of $90 million. The media Puck claims that Netflix made an even higher offer, but in return demanded a revision of the script. Conversely, Amazon does not require anything in this regard and could even be interested in a cinema release. An opportunity seized by producers!
As a reminder, the scenario comes from a short story from the collection Broken published in 2020 and written by Don Wislow. The film features two main characters: one is a detective and the other is a jewel thief linked to a Colombian cartel. Both roles will be played by Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Extraction) and Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us). However, we don’t yet know who will play which role. In any case, the thriller promises two huge celebrities on its poster.
A film dependent on its actors!
Given the two stars put forward for the project, we understand why the streaming giants fought so hard for the film: the current celebrity of these actors has undoubtedly driven up the prices! Whether it first comes out in theaters or not, the feature film will surely not go unnoticed. However, filming has not yet starteddue to recent strikes by writers and actors.
The Puck media also reports some unfortunate rumors regarding the future of the project. Effectively, Chris Hemsworth could well abandon it. The reasons and veracity of this information are uncertain, but it would be detrimental to the film. Let’s hope that the contract obviously signed with Amazon formalizes the project and that Crime 101 sees the light of day in our cinemas or on our small screens.
