September 6th, 2023 at 11:45 a.m. by Claus Ludewig – The makers behind Dirt Rally have lifted the veil and announced the new EA Sports WRC. In keeping with the presentation, the system requirements for the rally simulation are already available. In addition, EA is probably breaking a rule.
Since 2022, the British development studio Codemasters has officially been part of the American publisher Electronic Arts. The world’s largest games publisher has now restructured its racing game department. At the helm is David Rutter, who has successfully led FIFA development for years. Since May 2022, Codemasters Cheshire has been part of Criterion Games and only takes care of Need for Speed, while Codemasters is entrusted with the licensed games for Formula 1 and WRC. Now the team from Birmingham has announced the upcoming EA Sports WRC for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A new engine is used instead of the ego engine from EA Sports F1 23, so there is no version for Xbox One and Playstation 4.
This is what EA Sports WRC has to offer – system requirements, PC features and more
Since 2019, simulation fans have been able to demonstrate their skills on gravel roads etc. in Dirt Rally 2.0. However, there will be no new edition of the Dirt series for the time being, as the developers are concentrating on developing a rally simulation under the title EA Sports WRC. If you want, you can design your own rally car in builder mode and use it to take part in the WRC. In Moments mode, highlights from the real WRC season can be replayed. EA is allowed to publish a new video game about the World Rally Championship every year up to and including 2027. Kylotonn Games held these license rights from 2015 to 2022, but was only partially convincing. The developers have published the system requirements for the new EA Sports WRC directly on Steam:
CPU:At least: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i5 9600KRecommended: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i5-10600KRAM:At least: 8 GiByteRecommended: 16 GiByteGraphics card:At least: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56Recommended: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700XTStorage space: At least 80 gigabytes of free memory
In the EA Sports WRC trailer you can see a number of historic rally cars such as the Audi Quattro S1, Lancia Stratos and Subaru Impreza WRX STi. A total of 70 different WRC cars will be available in the game, which can be driven across 17 current and former WRC venues. The reveal trailer, which can be seen below this article, alternates gameplay scenes and marked real clips. Gameplay scenes show dynamic weather effects as well as mechanical defects and a damage model. There will be support for VR headsets exclusively on the PC, although this VR mode will only be available via a patch after launch. Widescreen support as well as support for AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS are also reserved for PC rally drivers. In addition to controller support, EA Sports WRC also offers support for various steering wheels and Dolby Atmos. From November 3rd you can drive over hill and dale in EA Sports WRC; those who pre-order can drive three days earlier. Anyone who already plays Dirt Rally 2.0 will receive a loyalty offer when they pre-order EA Sports WRC. As a bonus, everyone who pre-orders will receive a clothing and paint pack from the three current WRC factory teams from Ford M-Sport, Hyundai and Toyota. There is also the VIP Rally Pass for five in-game seasons. Apparently new content appears for each new rally season via VIP Season Pass instead of in a standalone video game.
