In addition to all the well-known predecessors such as Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing or Disney Dreamlight Valley, another star is lighting up the cozy games sky this Friday: Fae Farm is the name of the new farming RPG from Phoenix Labs for the PC and the Nintendo Switch. We tested it for you.
The first thing you notice is that Fae Farm (buy now) is neither a cheap copy nor a breathtaking innovation. Rather, we get a well-done hybrid that largely harmoniously combines some of the best aspects and mechanics of previous classics. In the land of Azoria we not only have the opportunity to build our own farm with numerous fields, beds and cute animals, but also the ability to work magic. Whether in single player or together with up to three friends in multiplayer mode, we can enjoy farm life with peace of mind. Maybe one day we’ll even get married in the city’s town hall or spend our time fighting the enemy rabble in the country’s mines. Ultimately, it is up to us to restore peace to the game world by appeasing the nature spirits.

Old MacDonald Had a (Fae) Farm…
Right at the beginning of the game, Mayor Merritt gives us an old farm with spacious land in the north of Azoria. We can set up there as we please, but first we have to clear the area of all sorts of clutter such as wild grasses, tree trunks or stones. We then have enough space on the gained area to grow numerous seasonal crops.
The city’s caring chairwoman has already given us all the important tools for this. Equipped with a pickaxe, axe, shovel, etc., everything soon revolves around acquiring numerous resources so that we can create necessary work stations such as the stone forge or the sawmill.
There are also a variety of crafting stations that make the gaming experience even more diverse for us. We later use the loom to sew our own clothes from the wool we collect from our animals. We make potions at the brewing kettle and we make stamina-regenerating drinks at the tea station. If that’s not enough for you, you can also look forward to three cooking stations with different functions.

Four different species of animals provide relief here, making themselves comfortable in the barns on our farm or accompanying us on the way. Cuddly chickens, rabbits, cows and sheep want to be well looked after by us in order to leave us practical resources. If we dedicate ourselves to animal breeding, we can experience the cutest colorful baby animals.
I shape the world the way I like it
Once we have successfully set ourselves up on the farm, the furnishings of our house should of course not be missing. In Fae Farm, some furniture not only has a decorative purpose, it also improves our status values through its placement. There are a number of selected items that increase our health, stamina or mana.

Later we even have the opportunity to design all the decorative objects according to our individual taste by coloring them. We can expand both our house and our backpack several times so that we have enough space for this multitude of resources and items. Unfortunately, this comes at a price and in Azoria it comes in the form of the city’s currency: Florin.
Life in Azoria
Speaking of money: In Fae Farm there are several ways to earn a lot of money every day. In the well-known Animal Crossing style, we can go fishing, catch insects or collect shells. Our own harvest and the home-cooked culinary masterpieces also bring us a good amount of money on the market. However, all sales are only processed overnight and – like in Stardew Valley – the income is always shown to us before the new dawn.
