The season of returns, small and large, does not die out. 2023, in particular, looks like a buzzy year for remastered editions of old games. We’ve known that Gargoyles would return for about a year. In fact, in September 2022, the announcement that the video game published on SEGA Mega Drive in the mid-90s would have a remastered edition for current consoles. Now the precise date: October 19th, in defiance of the releases – then postponed – so as not to have to face ruthless competition. Goliath is not afraid of any confrontation.
Disney entrusted development to the Empty Clip team. They are the authors of Dead Island 2: Retro Revenge, Streets of Kamurocho, and Hoshi. They took care of dusting off the platform side scrolling and re-updating it for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Regarding Sony and Microsoft machines: thanks to the backwards compatibility functions, you can also play from PS5 and Series X / S.
The original video game was developed at the time by Buena Vista Productions. Gargoyles is an animated series that aired in Italy until 1997. Disney stopped production relatively early due to the tone considered too dark and mature for the audience it wanted to address. The brand remained in the hearts of many who were kids at the time. Today there are rumors of a live-action adaptation whose direction would be entrusted to Kenneth Branagh.
