Starfield was promised to be the least buggy game in Bethesda’s history when it launched, but it’s still flawed: some problems are still pointed out, like this one concerning audio. A solution has been found… on PC.
In space you will hear yourself screaming
That’s it, Starfield is finally in stores, satisfying Bethesda and RPG fans after years and years of waiting. The experience is generally very good, having received a very good rating in our columns and still an average of 86% on Metacritic. But as you might expect, no one is perfect, including Microsoft’s new darling.
Among the bugs to report are major sound problems: a sort of audio stutter, or rather unbearable echo, and audio lag are strongly pointed out by several dozen players on the web. A problem which makes the game unplayable, but which also impacts the console’s voice chat.
Note that the bug is declared on PC and Xbox Seriesthe Series S having visibly slipped through the cracks.
An SSD where I’m having trouble
Perhaps you have noticed that the configuration recommended by Bethesda on PC required an SSD and not a traditional hard drive : according to some, the bug was therefore due to the use of the wrong accessory and it is true that it is partly due to that. The problem is that players complained on Reddit about the same problem even though they had an M.2 SSD, although it was very fast, among the best on the market.
In addition to audio bugs, significant freezes also accompany the situation. Finally, players found a solution on PC to put out the fire, a method that you can try if you are concerned: it would be enough to limit the exploitation of the CPU. Internet users have actually realized during their game that their processor was used at 100%, just like the SSD which was too.
An overflow that it would therefore suffice to restrain, for example by limiting the exploitation of the CPU by Starfield to 90%… which would be enough to make any problem disappear. “I don’t know why, but it worked for me,” says one user on Reddit. “My CPU was only at around 66% throughout the game, but sometimes it would instantly go up to 100 and the graphics card would drop at 0%. Everything except the audio was blocked for about 3 seconds and it happened every 90 seconds or so in the game, sometimes longer, sometimes less,” he said on the forum. “Lower the limit by 5%”he advises afterwards.
Another solution would also consist of to install the game on another SSD than the primary one of the PCin order to leave free air to Windows and the Steam application.
On the Xbox Series X side, it would simply be enough to turn the machine off and on again to erase the bug… temporarily, which can therefore come back. We imagine that a patch will fix all this soon.
