Apple will change its line of accessories, opting to use more environmentally friendly materials to replace the current options available in silicone and fluoroelastomer. The news is being reported by the MacRumors website, which also adds that this transition will be done gradually.
The same source says that the Cupertino company will not update existing accessories with new color options, after tomorrow’s launches of the iPhone 15 and its new generation of smartwatches. You will first wait for the stock of these accessories to run out before new ecological models are made available.
In accordance with this new practice, the leather covers available for iPhone will be replaced by accessories developed in premium friend-friendly material and which will be marketed as the “FineWoven” line.
One of the models in the pipeline to hit the market is the Watch FineWoven bracelet, designed with recyclable and environmentally friendly materials, which will also have a clasp with a magnetic system.
Fluoroelastomer is difficult to recycle due to its properties
In fact, accessories made from silicone have a smaller carbon footprint than leather accessories, but the problem then lies in recycling these models when they reach the end of their useful life.
Materials such as fluoroelastomer have already proven to be quite difficult to recycle due to their heat-resistant properties and strong structure.
For now, according to MacRumors, the first accessories to disappear will be models designed in leather. Then, in a second phase, there will be silicone accessories, and during this gradual transition, Apple will be able to include more environmentally friendly materials in its line of accessories.
