Today it became known that the conglomerate Embracer Group thinking about selling the studio Gearbox Entertainmentknown for the series of shooters Borderlands and Remnant 2.
Bloomberg published an email that Gearbox’s director of public relations, Dan Hewitt, sent out to employees. It says that the final fate of the studio has not yet been decided.
Embracer bought Gearbox in February 2021 for $1.35 billion. Anonymous sources report that the studio has already been offered to potential buyers, mainly international game companies. However, the deal may not go through.
The Embracer Group currently owns 129 in-house game studios. They employ more than 15 employees and employees from more than 40 countries around the world. Most of the purchases were made in 2019-2022, when the Embracer Group made a massive series of acquisitions, absorbing dozens of studios.
