O WhatsApp can support cross-platform messaging coming soon. This would be a measure towards regulating the 2024 European Unionwhich talk about the need for applications to receive messages from third-party apps for companies such as ByteDance, Meta, Amazon, Apple, Alphabet (Google) and Microsoft.
As reported by the WABetaInfo portal, the beta version v2.23.19.8 Green Messenger is already a screen for chat windows of applications from other platforms. However, it is still not possible to interact with this page, even though it indicates Meta’s intention to be in agreement with the EU.
In addition to not being able to interact, the screen does not show any type of button or option and is still completely empty. But, as the deadline mentioned by the European Union is until March next year, there is still time until this feature is working on WhatsApp.
Right now, this is one of the functions that is still missing for the messaging app to become a more complete platform. Among the new features recently implemented in the application is an option that makes it easier to create new groups within the platform.
The EU DMA, in turn, explained that these new rules serve to make “gatekeepers” guarantee the openness of critical digital services. In addition, the institution also advised companies to allow people to remove pre-installed apps or make purchases from alternative stores.
