In an interview, the developers at Larian Studios once again spoke about possible DLC for the celebrated role-playing game “Baldur’s Gate 3”. According to game director Swen Vincke, this would in principle be possible if one condition is met.
Shortly after the PC release last month, the developers at Larian Studios spoke for the first time about possible DLC or expansions for the fantasy role-playing game “Baldur’s Gate 3”.
After game director Swen Vincke pointed out in August that an add-on or DLC would pose new hurdles to the design of “Baldur’s Gate 3,” Vincke once again discussed additional content for the role-playing game in a recent interview.
The game director hasn’t wanted to officially confirm DLCs yet, but noted in an interview with the official “Dungeons & Dragons” channel that potential additional content is difficult to implement in principle, but the bottom line is that it’s not impossible. At least if they are not set in the endgame.
“Well, you could do different things in an expansion, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be at the end of the game,” Vincke added, pointing out that an “endgame-centric expansion for Baldur’s Gate 3 would be too difficult to implement.” Additional content that takes place after the end of the game should therefore not be expected.
That’s why the maximum character level is 12
As the interview continued, Larian’s game director also chatted about the development of “Baldur’s Gate 3” itself and discussed the fact that the maximum character level of the heroes is 12. According to Vincke, we are dealing with a conscious design decision by the developers, as the power that players gain after level 12 increases exponentially.
This in turn would have presented some problems for the writers, as it would have been difficult to incorporate this type of power into the story of Baldur’s Gate 3 in a believable way. Even with a possible DLC or an add-on, scaling to higher levels would bring with it some creative challenges, as Vincke said in an earlier interview noted.
Since Larian Studios wants to take a well-deserved vacation after releasing the console versions of “Baldur’s Gate 3” and fixing the final bugs, the announcement of additional content could take a while. Of course, always assuming that Larian Studios decides to develop DLC at all.
