The 8-episode show could be Flanagan’s “darkest” and final creation for Netflix.
The director’s collaboration with Netflix began in 2020 with The Haunting of Hill House and expanded to include The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and last year’s The Night Owl Club. In addition to thematic similarities, the show sometimes duplicates its cast – and the new work is no exception.
Here’s the main cast: Bruce Greenwood, Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Mark Hamill, Michael Trucco, T’Nia Miller, Paola Nunez, Henry Thomas, Kylie Curran, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford , Willa Fitzgerald, Katie Parker, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Aya Furukawa, Daniel June, Matt Beadel, Ruth Codd, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney and Robert Longstreet.
Based on the Edgar Allan Poe story of the same name, the horror series follows brother and sister Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) and Medline Usher (Mary McDonnell), who run the pharmaceutical company Fortunato Pharmaceuticals and achieve privilege, power and wealth at great cost. A family’s dark past comes to light when their heirs begin to die at the hands of a mysterious woman.
Unfortunately for fans, the show may be the last of Flanagan’s series – at least on Netflix. Last year, the director and colleague Trevor Macy signed an exclusive agreement with Amazon Studios, and in particular are working on adapting Stephen King’s fantasy epic The Dark Tower into a TV series.
The Fall of the House of Usher consists of 8 episodes and debuts on Netflix on October 12.
