Bryan Intihar from Insomniac Games is impressed by the many great games of the past few months. Although he is awestruck and even jealous because of this, in the end the entire industry benefits from it.
Gamers really can’t complain about the gaming year 2023. Real top-class titles have been released so far with “Resident Evil 4”, “Tears of the Kingdom”, “Street Fighter 6” and “Baldur’s Gate 3”. Each title achieved a Metascore of over 90 points.
Additionally, some games (just) missed the 90s range, but still performed excellently. Some examples:
Hi-Fi Rush – 89 points
Dead Space“-Remake – 89 points
Diablo IV– 88 points
Final Fantasy XVI – 87 points
Starfield – 87 points
Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon – 86 points
Remnant II – 85 points
And then there are new editions like “Metroid Prime Remastered” or “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”. Like the original version, both titles have received countless 90s ratings. So you can see: the players have more than enough to play so far.
Of course, this didn’t go unnoticed by the developers at Insomniac Games. The PlayStation studio is currently working hard on “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,” which is also aiming for an extremely high rating. The new Spidey adventure should compete for the “Game of the Year” award in December with the candidates mentioned at the beginning.
More great games than ever before
Bryan Intihar says he has never experienced such strong competition in his 23 to 24 years as a developer. Therefore, he feels ambitious and even a little envious because of the great work of other development teams.
“The number of games receiving these great reviews is incredible. There are a lot of talented, crazy developers out there, and they’re doing really cool stuff. I sit here in awe – and also with envy! – given what they were able to create,” says Intihar.
However, the creative director believes that a strong economy ultimately benefits everyone: “Having lots of great games only makes this industry stronger. This is not something to be afraid of, but rather something to be proud of. It will only make us, our games and all the games that come out in 2024 and 2025 even better.”
