Qualcomm is currently developing a new chip for the IT segment. At issue is the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 which, apparently, manages to place itself slightly above Apple’s M2.
This conclusion is advanced by the publication SemiAccurate in one of its most recent reports. The object of the same are the new Oryon cores developed by the North American company that will make their debut in the next Snapdragon processor for computers.
Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 will be better than the M2
After several months of developing the Oryon cores and the various setbacks encountered in the process, everything indicates that Qualcomm will have achieved the desired formula. And the first results obtained reveal a performance above Apple’s rival.
The superiority of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 over the M2 is slight, according to the report in question. Still, it is a fact that could be taken advantage of by Qualcomm when presenting this component and that the company should not ignore.
However, we do not know which version of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 is capable of achieving this superiority. Note that rumors point to the development of three variants, with different core counts.
There is a probability that the superiority of the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 over the M2 will be observed in just one of its configurations. In fact, it is important to highlight that the maximum configuration of the Qualcomm processor will come with 12 CPU cores, while the M2 has 8 cores.
If this is true, the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 could be surpassed by the M2 Pro simply because it has a higher CPU core count. However, we cannot yet evaluate this thesis because we do not have concrete values that would allow us to make a comparison.
Superiority of Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 could be quickly overshadowed
The problem with the upcoming Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 could be its presentation schedule. The difficulties experienced in its development dictate an uncertain calendar, although the Snapdragon Summit will take place at the end of October.
Even if Qualcomm unveils this processor at this event, it could quickly be overshadowed by Apple’s M3. The latter is expected to present its new chip in the coming weeks, possibly also in October.
When the M3 is unveiled, it is expected that it will outperform the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4. Something that will be a disappointment for Qualcomm and will once again place it one step behind its rival and compatriot.
