You may have never heard of this movie. And yet, this atypical project is rated 97%. And what’s more, it’s on Netflix! What are you waiting for?
The House, a Netflix mini-series…
The House adventure began in January 2022 in the form of an anthology mini-series. This means that each episode told a different story, but at the same time with a common theme and connection. In this case for The House, the three episodes take place in the same house but with different protagonists. We begin with the story of young Mabel and her family which will change completely after the arrival of a mysterious promoter. The second episode focuses on a people of anthropomorphic rats as the house is about to be sold. And finally, a population of anthropomorphic cats will take possession of the place while the house is being submerged by water.
You will have understood, The House offers atypical stories. And to do this, the mini-series has opted for an equally unusual cinematic genre: stop-motion animation with a perfectly creepy effect. Almost all scenes were done by hand, with no green background or digital compositions (with the exception of a dance number, mist and water effects). This is why each episode took over 20 weeks to produce. And this work paid off since the mini-series received very good critical feedback. With a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and two awards won, it is undeniably a little animated gem that you can now discover in another way.
…then a movie
Since then, the three episodes of The House have indeed been brought together into a film. The latter lasts 1 hour and 37 minutes. A compendium of stories that are at once surreal, dark and devilishly funny that you can discover on Netflix. Note that great actors have lent their voices to The House, such as Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter…) or Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones…). We leave you with the synopsis produced by our colleagues at Allociné:
In this animated dark comedy, a mysterious house unites a poor family, an anxious developer and an exasperated landlady across different eras.
