As the next World of Warcraft Dragonflight patch has been officially announced, Blizzard has spoken out about something many players are waiting for: a new overhaul of old zones.
Next year, World of Warcraft (WoW) will celebrate its 20 ans ! It’s been more than two decades since the world discovered legendary MMORPGs that forever changed the history of video games. Its impact and influence are so intense that it continues to be widely appreciated by a large number of players. However, with so many years under his belt, fans’ tastes have evolved over time. This is the reason why World of Warcraft Classic made its appearance for those nostalgic for the early days of the juggernaut, which was then recently enhanced with the hardcore mode for the more adventurous. At the same time, the expansions continue to be released regularly with DragonFlight which constitutes its ninth in total.
While Blizzcon is fast approaching, in addition to the 20th anniversary of this title, many believe that it would be appropriate to mark a turning point in the franchise. This is why a large portion of fans are hoping to see a new overhaul of the game’s old territories. An idea that seems to be in Blizzard’s plans, if we trust their communication!

Soon a new overhaul of territories on WoW?
At the end of 2010, an overhaul of the game’s old territories appeared with the Cataclysm expansion. Players were able to rediscover reworked landscapes and quests to make everything more dynamic and up to date with the times. However, time passes and it’s already almost 13 ans that this redesign took place, which explains the wish of a large number of fans of the license. An idea which was validated again by Ion Hazzikostas (Game Director at Blizzard) himself, stating that it is likely to happen. However, everything suggests that the next expansion will not be a remake of the old world. So, the idea of a redesign does seem to be in Blizzard’s plans, but it is currently difficult to know when it will see the light of day.
Trying not to vibrate uncontrollably in my seat right now.
Yes this is soft confirmation the next expac ISN’T an Old World Remake but WE HAVE IT ON FILE THAT ION SAYS IT’S LIKELY TO HAPPEN pic.twitter.com/JoUd4VpWis

However, Ion Hazzikostas also expressed that a possible overhaul was not to be taken lightly, and that it is delicate work. You should know that the old zones reworked during the release of Cataclysm were not unanimous among fans. Some felt that the very essence of the game at the time had been completely destroyed with this expansion, which pushed them to turn to the Classic version later. Furthermore, other areas are starting to agelike those of the first two expansions The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, which raises the question of knowing what the limits of a redesign work on the part of Blizzard will be.
In any case, with the Dragonflight expansion seemingly halfway to its end and 20 years of WoW, fans have very high expectations for the next BlizzCon which will take place on November 3 and 4. What else does World of Warcraft have in store for us? You will still have to be patient to find out!
