The success of Hogwarts Legacy has led to the return of the Harry Potter franchise as a reboot series on HBO Max, although director David Yates does not rule out making another film in the saga.
With the epic conclusion of the eighth film, we thought the Harry Potter story was over. At least, in its main line (which, let’s not forget, adapted JK Rowling’s seven books). However, Harry Potter will return as a reboot series on HBO Max.
Much of the blame lies with Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software’s successful RPG, which even will have a sequel after sweeping and becoming one of the best games of the year.
We don’t know what the series will be like. Harry Potterbut it is worth reviewing the films (released from 2001 to 2011) to take notes, whether about the story, the characters or the filming.
In an interview with Collider, David Yates, director of four films in the franchisetalks about the challenges posed by these installments, which show Harry, Ron and Hermione as teenagers (almost adults now).
David Yates, who does not rule out making another film in the saga, has directed four installments: The Order of the Phoenix (2007), The Half-Blood Prince (2009), The Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010) and The Deathly Hallows – part 2 (2011).
Una ”road movie” de Harry Potter
David Yates Has a Clear Answer on Which Harry Potter Movie He Was the biggest challengeand also explains why.
This is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, seventh installment of the saga which premiered in 2010. Its cast included the iconic stars of the franchise: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
That film was a great step for the saga. And, at the same time, a small introduction to what would be the epic conclusion with the Battle of Hogwarts, which we would see a year later.
David Yates acknowledges that The filming, and, above all, the editing (editing), was absolute chaos. Warner Bros.’s decision to divide JK Rowling’s latest book into two films was not a bad idea, but its execution posed many problems.
”The big challenge with that film was that it didn’t really have a third act. It ran out of steam halfway through, and Mark and I would often sit there thinking about it and saying, ‘This movie doesn’t have a third act.’ ‘How we go to…? Wait, this is crazy. It doesn’t have a third act.”
If we think about it carefully, it is true that Not much happens in Deathly Hallows 1. Its main novelty is that Harry, Ron and Hermione leave Hogwarts school, living adventures in London, but the final stretch feels somewhat empty.
What we didn’t suspect is that Yates and his team actually set up this film to be a kind of ”road movie europea”.
”The idea was that the first one was a road movie, it was to take the kids out of school, put them in danger outside of that safe place, and see how they grow and their relationship is tested. Not much happens at the end of the second half of the film, and I say that with great enthusiasm.”
Regarding the editing, David Yates believes that it is what makes the film score many points, since the script was simpler than in other films from Harry Potter. ”The work we did on the editing was incredible.”
Do you agree with director David Yates? Without a doubt, The Deathly Hallows Part 1 has more merit than we think, as it gave rise to the epic conclusion of the saga, although, as an independent Harry Potter film, it is true that It has less strength than others.
