According to a recent report from Insider Gaming, Microsoft managed to reach its next big milestone with Xbox Game Pass user numbers. This emerged from a now revised CV from Microsoft’s Craig McNary.
With Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft launched a new subscription service in 2017, which was continuously expanded in the following years and expanded to platforms such as the PC and mobile systems.
Even though the Xbox Game Pass and the PC Game Pass are now one of the main pillars of Microsoft’s gaming strategy, the Redmond-based company has recently held back with specific subscription numbers.
The CV of Craig McNary, who was responsible for platform and brand marketing for the Xbox division as senior director, may have shed some light on the matter.
As can be seen from McNary’s now revised CV, the Xbox Game Pass is now said to have more than 30 million subscribers. Since Microsoft has not yet officially confirmed the numbers, it is unclear when the 30 million subscriber mark was reached.
Sony Interactive Entertainment spoke of similar numbers
Microsoft gave us the last update on user numbers in June of last year, when there was talk of 25 million subscribers. The numbers from McNary’s CV are supported by direct competitor Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The PlayStation makers told the British Competition and Markets Authority at the end of 2022 thereupon, that Xbox Game Pass subscription numbers at the time were 29 million. However, the company left it open where Sony Interactive Entertainment got the numbers from.
Depending on how the subscription service’s user numbers are collected, a sharp increase in numbers could be expected soon. This week, Microsoft replaced the Xbox Live Gold service with Xbox Game Pass Core, which includes all the features of Xbox Live Gold and also gives subscribers access to a limited selection of games that can be downloaded and played at no additional cost.
