For almost twenty years the saga of God of War amazes its gamers with epic and spectacular boss fights, which saw Kratos pitted against gods, titans and mythological creatures of unspeakable power.
With a curriculum that boasts boss fights against adversaries of the caliber of Ares, Zeus, Poseidon, Kronos and the Stranger, it couldn’t have been easy at all for Santa Monica Studio to be able to amaze us once again, yet the Californian boys did it too with God of War Ragnarok. Here are what, in our opinion, are the best battles of the most recent episode of the series.
3. Gná, the new Queen of the Valkyries
Former servant of Freya, Gná filled the void left by Sigrún, the old Queen of the Valkyries who Kratos had already defeated in the endgame of God of War (2018). And exactly like the one who preceded her, she offered a challenge bordering on the impossible, as tense as it was difficult to complete. As with Sigrún, even for Gná the epic nature lies largely in the incredible satisfaction one feels once defeated, since the new Queen of the Valkyrie leaves no room for any error on the part of the player. To make everything even more exciting, at the end of the battle you can witness theemotional epilogue to his story with Freya.
2. Heimdall, Guardian of the Aesir and Herald of Ragnarok
The first time you meet him as Atreus, Heimdall appears to be an impossible opponent to defeat, being able to quickly predict and dodge any attack. The same script repeats itself with Kratos, until the Ghost of Sparta, specially equipped with the Spear of Draupnir, finally manages to penetrate his defenses. From that moment on the conflict grows in intensity. Heimdall, who hadn’t been hit by anyone for a long, long time, becomes increasingly annoyed, but despite revealing himself to be a formidable opponent, in the end he must necessarily surrender under the Spartan’s powerful blows. Kratos tries to spare him, but faced with the young god’s refusal he is forced to brutally kill him – an emotional scene that establishes the return to brutality that once distinguished him and that kicks off Ragnarok.
1. Thor, the God of Thunder
The battle with Thor it is not only the best boss fight in God of War Ragnarok, but also one of the most incredible and spectacular of the entire series. This should give you an idea of the exceptional nature of this fight, which saw Kratos pitted against one of the most fearsome enemies he has ever had the (dis)pleasure of encountering in his path.Everything is perfect, starting from the characterization of Thor, who wants to make Kratos pay for the death of his sons Magni and Modi (review the most epic boss fights in God of War, while you’re at it) and repeatedly provokes him, pushing him to give in to anger and destruction, traits that over time he has tried in vain to tone down. The battle becomes more and more intense as it goes on, also offering some exceptional moments, with Leviathan and Mjolnir colliding thunderously and Thor even getting to snatch Kratos from the death screenjust to continue the fight.
