Over the past year and a half, there have been repeated unconfirmed figures for Xbox Game Pass, including the statement of 30 million subscribers in an employee CV. According to Microsoft, this claim is not true, at least officially.
In the Xbox One generation, Microsoft decided to no longer publish console sales figures. Instead, the pure Xbox Live user numbers should reflect the success of the division. However, such information only allows a few conclusions to be drawn when it comes to console sales.
The company also seems to be taking a similar approach with Xbox Game Pass. We last heard from 25 million subscribers in January 2022. Since then, only unconfirmed numbers have followed, including: the 30 million subscribersthat most recently appeared on an employee’s resume.
The statement from Craig McNary, who was senior director of platform and brand marketing for the Xbox division, has since been deleted, raising questions about how realistic or current it was.
Microsoft: Xbox Game Pass has 25 million users
After McNary’s unconfirmed statement quickly made its way through the press, Microsoft spoke up without confirming the number. The company behind Xbox simply pointed out that the official number remains what was announced in January 2022.
“Since publication, the LinkedIn account in question has removed the reference to Xbox Game Pass reaching 30 million users. “Microsoft also sent us a statement confirming the previous milestone of 25 million as the official number,” said Windows Central.
But what does that mean? There are three options. The number of Xbox Game Pass subscribers may have decreased, for example due to the Elimination of promotional offers. However, that doesn’t sound plausible.

It is also possible that the Xbox Game Pass numbers growing slower than expected and Microsoft does not want to draw attention to this with updated information.
