It was almost two months ago when a brutally poorly rated film briefly managed to displace what was probably the biggest blockbuster of the year at the top of the charts. Due to a strong Starts in China managed it Meg 2: The Deep to put mega-hit Barbie in her place for one day. It wasn’t until weeks later that one of the biggest Hollywood stars of all time managed to do this again. But even after this brief interim high, the film cucumber ensured brilliant audience numbers in the cinemas.
Barbie, Oppenheimer and a basking shark – the cinema goes crazy
For once, the cinema charts of the last few weeks have not been dominated by a sequel, a sequel or a superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, the toy adaptation Barbie left mouths open and cinemas packed to capacity. In tow, Christopher Nolan’s 3-hour chunk Oppenheimer also proved to be an unexpected crowd puller.
In addition to Barbie as a biting social satire and the very serious biopic Oppenheimer (here is our review), a film that is less pretentious and more focused on hard-hitting action shone at the global box office. We’re talking about Meg (buy now €32.99)2: The deptha big-screen spectacle in which Fast and Furious star Jason Statham once again battles with prehistoric basking sharks.
In advance of publication the second part of the serieswhich was also joined by dinosaurs, it hailed to sweep on the part of the critics. The infamous Tomatometer on the rating portal Rotten Tomatoes shows just 28 percent. However, that didn’t stop audiences from flocking to the cinemas.

The flow of spectators has dwindled more and more in the last few weeks and is likely to come to a complete standstill very soon. Currently stands Meg 2: The Deep at over $390 million worldwide box office revenue. Weaker than the first part in 2018 with just under $530 millionbut still a real hit.
