Notice: Major One Piece plot spoilers
After leading Shonen Jump for 25 years, One Piece continues to expand its legend with chapters that break the internet again and again thanks to the enormous work of Eiichiro Oda to create a story full of content and a gigantic world full of life. However, many still do not forgive Oda for one of the most tragic deaths in the work: the murder of Ace at the hands of Akainu.
However, few know that Eiichiro Oda was aware from the beginning that Ace I was going to die at that moment. So much so that she even unconsciously left us a clue in one of his most iconic pieces of clothing that he wears almost everywhere: his hat. During the SBS of volume 61, the author explained that he noticed this detail when several fans pointed it out to him.
“I was also surprised when I first realized this point. The funny thing is that coincidence happened to become reality. For Ace’s expressions when he was dying, I drew those two panels side by side.”
According to Oda throughout the response, he explains that these two expressions reflect what Ace wanted to tell Luffy with his expressions before his death. On the one hand, we see the face of pain, burning, damage, feeling of discomfort and that fear of dying, while, on the other hand, we see how he really wanted to say goodbye to Luffy, smiling.
One Piece is one of those works in which both the author and the fans interact on many occasions to exchange opinions and, above all, resolve any questions they may have as a result of the new chapters or that they simply want to know out of curiosity. Will there be more nods to future events in the play? Surely, but Oda will be a grave until she reveals her big secrets.
