Here are two interesting new features to note from Amazon’s recent announcements: more intuitive and natural interactions to control objects in your home and a new Map View function in the Alexa application.

In addition to the all-new Echo Hub, Amazon is introducing other cool things to control your home smarter. This includes new interaction experiences and a new feature called Map View in the Alexa application.
Let’s start with said experiments. What should we understand by this? Quite simply, it becomes much more natural to converse with Amazon Alexa since the voice assistant will now rely on a large language model (LLM) that is much more powerful and more effective for speaking orally. like a human would do.
More intuitive voice commands
Amazon is therefore exploiting this small revolution to unlock more natural interactions with the connected objects in your home. The company admits that today, “you always have to remember specific phrases and device names, make multiple requests, or sometimes repeat yourself.” However, it is precisely this type of drawback that Alexa’s new capabilities promise to erase.
Alexa’s new LLM is able to handle a nearly infinite number of variations and understand how your home is configured to trigger the appropriate APIs and actions. […] If I told you I’m cold, you’d know exactly what to do — turn up the heat — and Alexa can now process that same level of ambiguity. Just say “Alexa, I’m cold” and Alexa will increase the temperature. Or “Alexa, there’s too much light in here,” and Alexa will dim the lights. Alexa will also be better able to understand context. So when you add more devices to your home, you can simply say “Alexa, turn on the new light in the living room,” and Alexa will infer what you mean and act accordingly.
The brand also invites users to combine several queries into a single sentence. Example: “Alexa, close all the blinds, turn off all the lights and start the vacuum cleaner.”

Amazon also announces that it has implemented tools for third-party manufacturers to allow them to exploit Alexa’s optimized AI in order to be able to imagine unique requests depending on the product. Thus, a manufacturer of robot vacuum cleaners will be able to ensure that with a sentence like “the floor is dirty”, Alexa knows that the device must be activated. “We already work with GE Cync, Philips, GE Appliances, iRobot, Roborock and Xiaomi.”
These new interactions will be available in the United States soon, and first as part of a preview phase. We will probably have to wait before seeing the new LLM behind Alexa learn French correctly.
Map View
Finally, let’s talk about Map View. This is a new feature in the Alexa app. As its name suggests, it is simply a map. This displays a map of your house and the connected devices present in each room.

“You choose which rooms are added to your plan, which devices are displayed and you can remove individual devices at any time. Thanks to the card, you can turn off all the lights on the ground floor with a simple tap, adjust the temperature, see live images from your cameras and check that you have locked the front door, all in one place.”

To create the map of your home, Amazon says you simply scan your home with your smartphone camera. The Map View option will be rolled out by the end of the year, but only in the United States at first.
