Phil Spencer, the boss of the division Xboxwith a post on Twitter / news leak occurred yesterday, confirming that it is information from “old emails and documents” and that a lot has changed since then. Ironically, in recent hours an email sent by Spencer to the Xbox staff in which he talks about the incident has also been leaked online.
For those who don’t know, yesterday a huge amount of data and details on Xbox’s future strategies and possible acquisitions for the next few years appeared online. These include plans for a next-generation console in 2028, possible new Xbox Series X|S models arriving in 2024, and Phil Spencer’s desire to acquire Nintendo. It was caused by a single court document uploaded to a website hosted by the U.S. District Court, which mistakenly included that information as an attachment.
“We’ve seen conversations about old emails and documents,” says Phil Spencer on Twitter/X. “It’s hard to see our team’s work shared this way because so much has changed and there is so much to be excited about right now and in the future. We will share real plans when we are ready.”

As mentioned at the beginning, The Verge portal has come into possession of one email sent to Xbox staff a few hours ago, in which Spencer confirms again that what has been leaked online is information and plans that are at least a year old and that a lot has changed in the meantime.
He also asked employees to focus on Xbox’s short- and long-term future: from the success of Starfield and the launch of Forza Motorsport in October, to the plans to grow the services and catalog of the Verdecrociato ecosystem.
“Today, several documents submitted as part of the court proceedings relating to our proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard were unintentionally disclosed. I know this is disappointing, although many of the documents they date back more than a year ago and our plans have evolved,” Spencer says in the email. The boss

We will learn from what happened and improve in the future. We all put an incredible amount of passion and energy into our work, and we don’t want this hard work to be shared with the community. That said, there’s a lot more to be excited about, and when we’re ready, we’ll share the real plans with our players.”
