At Xbox, people are currently waking up with mixed feelings. On the one hand, there is euphoria due to Starfield’s huge success. On the other hand, people are rather disillusioned by the big leak, which allowed a lot of information to leak out that they would have preferred to keep under wraps. From plans to buy Nintendo to canceled games, the leak revealed some interesting things.
Now Xbox boss Phil Spencer commented on the leak and addressed the fans and players on the one hand, but also directly to all employees on the other.
So he pointed out that it was mostly old emails and conversations and that it was difficult to see because so much had already changed in the meantime. As a reminder, some of the leaked emails and information date back to 2020. But they want to share the “real” plans with the players as soon as they are ready.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer to his employees
In addition to this tweet, Xbox boss Phil Spencer also addressed an email directly to all employees. Ironically, this email was also leaked and published by TheVerge. Here you can find the leaked text:
Today, several documents submitted in the court proceedings related to our proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard were unintentionally disclosed. I know this is disappointing, even if many of the documents are well over a year old and our plans have evolved.
I also know we all take the confidentiality of our plans and our partners’ information very seriously. This leak obviously is not us living up to that expectation. We will learn from what happened and be better going forward. We all put incredible amounts of passion and energy into our work, and this is never how we want that hard work to be shared with the community. That said, there’s so much more to be excited about, and when we’re ready, we’ll share the real plans with our players.
In closing, I appreciate all of the work that you pour into Team Xbox to surprise and delight our players. In the days and weeks ahead, let’s stay focused on what we can control: continuing the amazing success of Starfield, the upcoming launch of the incredible and accessible Forza Motorsport, and continuing to build games, services and devices that millions of players can enjoy.
Here, too, he specifically points out that most of the plans are outdated and have long been outdated. They want to learn from these incidents and continue to put all their energy and passion into developing new games. But in the future they want to avoid sharing this hard work with the players in this way.
