Highly appreciated by critics, Hijack is a little nugget that you can find on Apple TV+.
You may have missed it, but it’s never too late to catch up: the Apple TV+ summer series Hijack, led by the charismatic Idris Elba, is a high-level thriller composed of only 7 episodes which tell, in real time, a hostage taking in the middle of a plane flight. Elba plays the role of a negotiator who will try to keep all the passengers alive. The idea for George Kay’s (Lupin) screenplay came naturally to him during a train journey, which had suddenly stopped (for entirely reasonable reasons). “What if something happened?”, he began to imagine.
Told in real time, “Hijack” is a thriller centered on the hijacking of a plane bound for London. During the seven-hour flight, authorities on the ground scramble to find answers. Sam Nelson is a recognized negotiator in the business community. While he must use all his ingenuity to save the lives of the passengers, his very risky strategy could well lead to his downfall – Allociné.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the score is quite good and stands at 88%, with the press agreeing on the following consensus: “Largely devoid of narrative turbulence and benefiting greatly from its real-time pace, Hijack is a brilliant but effective thriller which achieves real take-off”. Seduced, The Guardin writes that “Luther’s star is majestically charismatic in this real-time hijacking drama. He is the rock on which rests seven hours of brilliant, sink-in-your-mouth absurdities.”
Idris Elba in JV news
Remember that Idris Elba recently makes a remarkable entry into Phantom Liberty, the newly released DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. After Keanu Reeves in Johnny Silverhand, it is the turn of another prestigious actor to join Night City. Elba plays the role of a former FIA (Federal Intelligence Agency) agent left for dead by his employers at the end of the Unification War. Solomon Reed returns to service 7 years later and his return to public life is one of the game’s great successes according to our DLC test. “The digital version of the British actor bursts onto the screen. Idris Elba, as charismatic as ever, gives us a subtle performance worthy of Her Majesty’s best spies. Finally, Phantom Liberty will have an impact on the universe of Cyberpunk 2077 , there is no doubt about it, and we look forward to experiencing it,” we wrote.
