Starting today, Cyberpunk 2077 puts a tombstone on old hard drives. In fact, today you will be able to download the update to version 2.0 of the game on both PC and next-gen consoles (now current-gen). While the Phantom Liberty expansion will be downloadable and playable from Tuesday 26 September 2023.
With a statement, CD Projekt RED wanted to clarify that both update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion will need to be installed on an SSD, and there will be no support for Hard Disks. As far as the console world is concerned, you won’t have to do anything, because these updates will not be available on PS4 and Xbox One, definitively leaving behind the old generation that created so many headaches for the development team. While on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S the game and expansion will be automatically updated/installed on SSD.
As for the PC version, however, there is a little more caution to be taken. If you installed the game on a hard disk, you will have to uninstall it and then reinstall it on an SSD, before you can update. Otherwise it will not be possible to update to version 2.0. However, if the game is already installed on an SSD, you must be careful to uninstall all the Mods before updating to version 2.0 and then when you download Phantom Liberty next week.
The decision was made precisely by virtue of the innovations present in the game, starting from a police that is finally equipped with an AI adequate to the promises, complete with chases! But above all to leave behind the terrible bugs and glitches of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, due to asset loading times that were too slow compared to the speed at which the game moves.
“The reason there will be these changes is that updating system requirements is an important part of the process of improving a game, and adding new features.”added CD Projekt RED.
