Even if this game is not a disaster, it was not a big enough success. This is the reason why this creator made the decision to leave his studio, which was only four years old.
The end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 were very prolific periods for Dead Space fans. The co-creator, Glen Schofield, from this emblematic horror license has produced a new title of the same genre. The Callisto Protocol was released in December 2022, after sparking enthusiasm among fans of the franchise that inspired this title. Unfortunately, despite the fact that it is very far from being catastrophic, it disappointed many players who were expecting a much more memorable game. At JV, it was rated 15/20, highlighting in particular its gameplay different from Dead Space with melee, its confrontations which are intense challenges, its sustained rhythm, its worked atmosphere and its worked graphics, in terms of concerns the positive points. However, this title has many negative sides such as the fact that it quickly becomes chaotic when several enemies attack the character at the same time, that its lack of general audacity is to be deplored, and that its scenario is far from be striking.
A disappointment which not only affected the players, but also Glen Schofield, at the origin of the project. Thus, ten months after the disappointing release of The Callisto Protocol, he made the decision to leave the studio he founded: Striking Distance Studios.

The spiritual successor to Dead Space failed to meet Glen Schofield’s expectations with its mixed reception. So, the sales numbers weren’t as great as Striking Distance Studios thought, given its AAA budget. In an official press release, the Dead Space co-creator said he is now “pursuing new opportunities.” It is therefore Steve Papoutsis who takes the place of CEO in this studio, following his departure.
Although, according to Glen Schofield, it is a “bittersweet” conclusion, he said that Steve Papoutsis is the ideal person to continue to manage Striking Distance Studios: “I know the studio is between excellent hands.” He also suggested that he had been preparing for this transition for a long time in order to avoid it complicating the company’s activity. To see what the future of this company will be which, for the moment, is seeking to fill many positions after a wave of layoffs in August.
