The popular fighting series “Mortal Kombat” has never shied away from celebrity appearances. However, for the latest installment “Mortal Kombat 1”, Ed Boon had the idea of having all the characters played by famous actors.
The latest installment in the Mortal Kombat fighting series, Mortal Kombat 1, is here. The title has been available in early access since September 14th. Since September 19th, the brawler has been officially released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and the Nintendo Switch.
At the release, Chief Creative Officer and co-creator of “Mortal Kombat,” Ed Boon, spoke about the latest installment in the long-running series. In the interview, Boon stated that he was considering a rather expensive idea for the new game.
Boon dreamed of famous actors
As the Chief Creative Officer states in the interview, he had thought about hiring famous voices for his reboot. “One of the things that bothered me about this game… What if we made a game where every character was played by an actor, a famous, well-known actor,” Boon told Rolling Stone. Boon goes on to say that this was of course a crazy idea because it would have been simply too expensive for the studio. In addition, few actors would want to spend the necessary time in the recording studio. Boon also states that many actors don’t realize how demanding video games are.
In the interview, the Chief Creative Officer also mentioned his casting ideas for some of the characters. So Claude van Damme could have played Johnny Cage, which makes sense since the very first Mortal Kombat was supposed to be a JCVD game. Keanu Reeves was also supposed to portray Kenshi. With Megan Fox, Ed Boon was able to make his dream come true. The actress took on the role of the female vampire Late, which, however, is not well received by all players. Users criticize that Fox made little effort in setting it to music.
