According to game director Naoki Hamaguchi, the world of the original “Final Fantasy VII” will be recreated in “Rebirth” on a 1:1 scale. Hamaguchi further promised that we can look forward to a seamless gaming experience when exploring the world.
After the publication of the latest gameplay scenes In an interview with Press Start, game director Naoki Hamaguchi spoke in detail about the work on “Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth”, the second act of the “Final Fantasy VII” remake.
During the interview, Hamaguchi discussed, among other things, the game world of “Rebirth” and pointed out that the world of the original “Final Fantasy VII” was recreated on a 1:1 scale. According to the game director, the developers placed particular emphasis on a seamless gaming experience.
“We took the world map from the original Final Fantasy VII, but created it at a true scale. All dungeons, all cities, everything in this world is now contained in the same space. “It’s a seamless map,” Hamaguchi added, explaining that there are essentially only two concepts when exploring an open world.
Developers rely on progressive exploration
On the one hand, we are dealing with the so-called “non-linear exploration”, in which the players are placed in an open world and can explore it as they wish right from the start. According to the game director, the second concept is “progressive exploration”, in which the developers focus on a large area and gradually unlock the locations and regions that can be explored as the story progresses.
According to Hamaguchi, “Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth” takes the second approach. The players start with a fairly large area to explore, but as the story progresses they gain access to additional areas and regions that they can visit or explore.
Since the areas of the game world are seamlessly connected to each other, it is possible to revisit areas that have already been visited at any time, for example to tackle side missions that are still open. According to Hamaguchi, this design approach enables a dynamic and constantly evolving gaming experience in an open world.
