Kimetsu no Yaiba takes good note of Mario Party, offering a different proposal that will arrive in 2024 on Nintendo Switch. We have already played it at Tokyo Game Show 2023, and these are our impressions.
Go for it! This is the title of the next Night Watch game -Kimetsu no Yaiba- that we have already been able to test in the Tokyo Game Show 2023.
And no, this time it’s not a fighting game. Although it does have a good dose of combat, it is more like a certain Nintendo game.
After deliveries like The Hinokami Chronicles (both the original version and the Switch port), now the saga is committed to a very different genre.
After trying several denser games, a title like Guardians of the Night -Kimetsu no Yaiba- Go for it! It was most appealing.
This is a very fun proposal that is designed for the whole family, so it will not be a good way to share fun with children. Its gameplay, at least in its main mode, is board-based, so It is very reminiscent of Mario Party.
Roll the dice and let’s go for the minigames
The first thing to do is choose a character. And we can tell you that there are a good number of them, so you won’t miss practically anyone. To go to the board we started Shinobuwho will always give his best effort.
But in the first roll a number three already led us to lose money. Each turn, after the dice are rolled, results in a minigame or some type of event. Games can only last 10 turnsso they don’t have to be eternal.
In that aspect it must be said that it moves away from the problems that other board games have where development is too tedious. However, playing time in TGS 2023 is limited and we were only able to play a couple of turns.
Maybe because we spent too much time talking to the flight attendant who was guiding us. “Do you really like Kimetsu no Yaiba?” And I, with my Attack on Titan t-shirt, respond “well, not bad.”
But I quickly counterattacked, “I prefer the classics, like Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon.” A few hehe-haha later, the girl explained something important to us that we detail in the next section.
Night and day game
They are Guardians of the Night, but that doesn’t mean they spend the day sitting looking at the trees. The entire board portion occurs during sunny hours. The minigames, which we haven’t even detailed yet, are quite basic.
They are not crazy things like Wario Ware, nor are they as active games as Mario Party. They are in the middleat least from what I have been able to see.
For example, in a minigame Nezuko hides and the boxes move as if you were playing with the shell. You have to “guess” where she is, and each round Nezuko’s location moves faster until, on the last turn, she’s so damn fast it’s hard to see her.
Or maybe it wasn’t that difficult, but the conversation was getting more interesting. In another of the minigames you had to press buttons with speedbut being careful not to do so when putting a bomb in the fireworks barrel.
When night comes, the system changes. What we do is face one of the demons more directly. While he runs towards us, he shoots and attacks us, so we must be careful to precisely make the correct keystrokes, so that we get more points when fighting him.
Although it is a battle, it continues to have that competitive factor ideal for groups of friends.
For children and not so children
There is no need to label it as a children’s game, because, although it has clear traits of that, it has the capacity to entertain all types of people. Without being a big fan of Guardians of the nightI can’t deny that I had a good time…. and I would even play another game.
Its launch It is expected next year 2024 exclusively for Nintendo Switch, so there is still quite a bit left for us to see.
That it comes from Sega is a guarantee to know that, at the very least, it will offer a good level of quality. Also, take note of something more than important: it will be possible to play both online and offline, so fun will be guaranteed.
